I'm delighted to offer for sale this remarkable, intricately hand carved corner chair in mahogany by world renowned - Sculpture, Constantin Brancusi, this model came from the time he attended the School of Arts and Crafts of Craiova (1894 - 98). This is really is a museum quality piece. Features, symmetrical Griffins to both upright slats, angel head with sun crown carved to the top/centre of the back rail, intricate floral carvings to the top if the swept arm rails.

The patina is very rich with an almost rosewood/cognac coloring, well complemented by the rich, soft green velvet seat. Quite a large piece, with enormous presence! Would not look out of place in a stately home.

Larger than a standard corner chair, I suspect it may have been a gentleman's chair. I : February 19, 1876 - March 16, 1957 was a Romanian sculptor, painter and photographer who made his career in France. Considered one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century and a pioneer of modernism, Brâncu? I is called the patriarch of modern sculpture. As a child he displayed an aptitude for carving wooden farm tools.

Formal studies took him first to Bucharest, then to Munich, then to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1905 to 1907. His art emphasizes clean geometrical lines that balance forms inherent in his materials with the symbolic allusions of representational art. I sought inspiration in non-European cultures as a source of primitive exoticism, as did Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, André Derain and others.

However, other influences emerge from Romanian folk art traceable through Byzantine and Dionysian traditions. Offered in excellent condition - recently upholstered. Note: It was very hard to capture the colour! See last photo for a better match, it is actually a dark Emerald/or British racing green (not teal). Please study the photos as they do form part of the description. Cleaned waxed and oiled ready for its new home. 71 cm Wide - Hand rest to hand rest.
